Eid al-Fitr is a significant day symbolising the conclusion of the holy month of Ramadan, during which Muslims engage in fasting, uphold noble precepts, earnestly practice meditation, perform virtuous deeds, and donate to those in need. It is a joyous occasion filled with blessings, celebrated in unity with family members, friends, and neighbours.
However, Muslims residing in Myanmar have been unable to observe Ramadan peacefully due to the daily bombings, unjust arrests, and inhumane acts perpetrated by the oppressive terrorist military council. Additionally, on March 28, 2025, at 12:50 PM Myanmar Standard Time, a powerful earthquake measuring 7.7 on the Richter scale struck 16 kilometres northwest of Sagaing, followed by a 6.4-magnitude aftershock 12 minutes later, centered 18 kilometres south of Sagaing. These earthquakes caused extensive damage within Myanmar, leading to the collapse of temples, stupas, religious buildings, and mosques, resulting in numerous fatalities and injuries.
In response, the National Unity Government has directed a two-week cessation of all offensive operations, excluding defensive actions, in the affected regions to facilitate humanitarian assistance and ensure the safety of those injured by the earthquake.
The earthquake coincided with Friday prayers (Jumu’ah), leading to the tragic loss of many Muslim lives. We express profound sorrow over this tragedy and extends heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families.
On this auspicious occasion of Eid al-Fitr, the National Unity Government sends this message with deep sympathy, praying that all Muslims in Myanmar may be free from all the suffering and tragedies.
